Teaser Tuesdays

It’s time for another “Teaser Tuesday!”

This feature (or meme)  is one I originally discovered on my friend Kim’s site Book Munchies, and is hosted by MizB at A Daily Rhythm. For those of you who would like to play along at home (or more specifically on your homepage), here is how Teaser Tuesdays work.

– Grab (one of) your current read(s) and open it to a random page
– Share a couple “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
– BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)

This week I’m teasing one of the short stories from this collection of novellas set in the Psy-Changeling world…

“I teach a lot of little cats,” she reminded him in a prim, schoolteacher voice. “I might not be an expert on changeling behavior, but I’ve picked up enough to know that when in animal form, you behave according to the needs of the animal.”

He couldn’t help himself. He turned and snapped his teeth at her, making her jump. When he began to chuckle, her eyes narrowed. “You’re as bad as Bryan. He does that to Katie all the time.”

“Odds on, he has a crush on her.”

Her lips twitched. “That’s what I think, too.”

Stars of Fortune (The Guardians Trilogy, #1) by Nora Roberts

BOOK ONE OF THE GUARDIANS TRILOGY

To celebrate the rise of their new queen, three goddesses of the moon created three stars, one of fire, one of ice, one of water. But then they fell from the sky, putting the fate of all worlds in danger. And now three women and three men join forces to pick up the pieces…

Sasha Riggs is a reclusive artist, haunted by dreams and nightmares that she turns into extraordinary paintings. Her visions lead her to the Greek island of Corfu, where five others have been lured to seek the fire star. Sasha recognizes them, because she has drawn them: a magician, an archaeologist, a wanderer, a fighter, a loner. All on a quest. All with secrets.

Sasha is the one who holds them together—the seer. And in the magician, Bran Killian, she sees a man of immense power and compassion. As Sasha struggles with her rare ability, Bran is there to support her, challenge her, and believe in her.

But Sasha and Bran are just two of the six. And they all must all work together as a team to find the fire star in a cradle of land beneath the sea. Over their every attempt at trust, unity, and love, a dark threat looms. And it seeks to corrupt everything that stands in its way of possessing the stars…

New Nora Roberts trilogy… YAY!! More love and magic mixed together. I love the sound of these people, and that there are goddesses, and I’m really hoping that my Queen of Romance is delving into the realm of Greek mythology with this new series of hers. I cannot wait to get my hands on this new book. Nobody melds magic, romance, and danger like Nora Roberts. Bring it on! P.S. that cover is so pretty!!!

Glancing back at Camille and receiving a nod, he placed a shoulder against the rattling planks to brace against the wind and lifted the clattering latch and eased the door on its leather-strap hinges open a crack, putting his eye to the narrow space as a snow-bearing sheet of wind swirled in. “Ai!” he wailed and slammed the door to and crashed the bar down into its brackets.

“What is it Papa?” cried the children at the fire as they leapt to their feet and clustered, all clutching one another for support, the mother standing and shrinking back against the trembling knot of girls.

Cuddles ignored me and the vampire, defiantly clopping passed it. The bloodsucker turned smoothly and fell into step next to me. “Where is your… significant other?”

“He’s around.” He was never too far. “Why, are you worried he’ll find out about this romantic rendezvous?”

The vampire froze for a second. “What?”

“You’re meeting me in secret on a lonely street in the middle of the night…”

Ghastek’s voice was so sharp, if it were a knife, I would have been sliced to ribbons. “I find your attempts at humor greatly distressing.”

Hee-hee.

Magic Shifts (Kate Daniels, #8) by Ilona Andrews

In the latest Kate Daniels novel from #1 New York Times bestselling author Ilona Andrews, magic is coming and going in waves in post-Shift Atlanta—and each crest leaves danger in its wake…

After breaking from life with the Pack, mercenary Kate Daniels and her mate—former Beast Lord Curran Lennart—are adjusting to a very different pace. While they’re thrilled to escape all the infighting, Curran misses the constant challenges of leading the shapeshifters.

So when the Pack offers him its stake in the Mercenary Guild, Curran seizes the opportunity—too bad the Guild wants nothing to do with him and Kate. Luckily, as a veteran merc, Kate can take over any of the Guild’s unfinished jobs in order to bring in money and build their reputation. But what Kate and Curran don’t realize is that the odd jobs they’ve been working are all connected.

An ancient enemy has arisen, and Kate and Curran are the only ones who can stop it—before it takes their city apart piece by piece…

YAY!! I’m so excited to see what happens with Kate and Curran now that they’re no longer a part of the pack! I was so surprised with the end of the last book when that was the condition of Kate’s dad not taking over the city, and the fact the Curran left with/for her?!?! (*deep romantic sigh*) I love these two as a couple, and I’m really looking forward to seeing how they interact without all the politics of the Pack entwined in their relationship. Although, I doubt they’re going to be completely cut off from the rest of the shifters. That just seems unlikely. But regardless, I’m really curious and excited to find out what waits for these two now that they’ve confronted Kate’s dad, and her heritage is sort of out there for all the world to see!

Fall With Me (Wait for You, #4) by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Eleven months ago, bartender and weird-shirt-wearing extraordinaire Roxy and Officer Reece Anders had a one night stand. Well, kind of. She’s been in love with him since she was fifteen, and he wishes that night they shared never happened. She’s sworn him off forever, but the past and future collide, forcing her to rely on the one man who broke her heart not once, but twice.

Her best friend since birth has been in a long-term care facility since he became a victim of a hate crime years ago, and the person who put him in there is out of prison and wanting to make amends with him and Roxy. She’s not sure she has room for forgiveness in her and when she begins to receive frightening messages and is on the receiving end of escalating violence, she thinks she knows who is to blame. The man who already destroyed one life already.

But Reece isn’t convinced. The threats are too personal, and even if Roxy doesn’t believe him, he’s not willing to let anyone hurt her. Including himself. He’s already messed up more than once when it comes to Roxy and he’s not going to let history repeat itself.

I can’t really remember when or why I started reading the Wait for You series, but I really liked it. I’m not really that into a lot of the “New Adult” stuff, because I don’t think I’ve found a lot that was all that well written (at least, not yet) but J. Lynn’s series is one of the fun exceptions to that. Her romances always feel realistic, as well as incredibly sexy. I especially liked the third book in this series, taking things out of college and into a more “real world” atmosphere, which I enjoyed. I’m glad to see that this book is going to focus on Roxy and Reece! I found their somewhat antagonistic relationship to be quite interesting and I’m curious to see where this book will take them!
