Cuddles ignored me and the vampire, defiantly clopping passed it. The bloodsucker turned smoothly and fell into step next to me. “Where is your… significant other?”

“He’s around.” He was never too far. “Why, are you worried he’ll find out about this romantic rendezvous?”

The vampire froze for a second. “What?”

“You’re meeting me in secret on a lonely street in the middle of the night…”

Ghastek’s voice was so sharp, if it were a knife, I would have been sliced to ribbons. “I find your attempts at humor greatly distressing.”

Hee-hee.

Magic Shifts (Kate Daniels, #8) by Ilona Andrews

Hardcover, 342 pages
Publication Date: Aug. 4th, 2015
Publisher: Ace
ISBN: 9780425270677
Add it: To your TBR Pile or your “Want to Read” list on Goodreads.

In the latest Kate Daniels novel from #1 New York Times bestselling author Ilona Andrews, magic is coming and going in waves in post-Shift Atlanta—and each crest leaves danger in its wake…

After breaking from life with the Pack, mercenary Kate Daniels and her mate—former Beast Lord Curran Lennart—are adjusting to a very different pace. While they’re thrilled to escape all the infighting, Curran misses the constant challenges of leading the shapeshifters.

So when the Pack offers him its stake in the Mercenary Guild, Curran seizes the opportunity—too bad the Guild wants nothing to do with him and Kate. Luckily, as a veteran merc, Kate can take over any of the Guild’s unfinished jobs in order to bring in money and build their reputation. But what Kate and Curran don’t realize is that the odd jobs they’ve been working are all connected.

An ancient enemy has arisen, and Kate and Curran are the only ones who can stop it—before it takes their city apart piece by piece…

YAY!! I’m so excited to see what happens with Kate and Curran now that they’re no longer a part of the pack! I was so surprised with the end of the last book when that was the condition of Kate’s dad not taking over the city, and the fact the Curran left with/for her?!?! (*deep romantic sigh*) I love these two as a couple, and I’m really looking forward to seeing how they interact without all the politics of the Pack entwined in their relationship. Although, I doubt they’re going to be completely cut off from the rest of the shifters. That just seems unlikely. But regardless, I’m really curious and excited to find out what waits for these two now that they’ve confronted Kate’s dad, and her heritage is sort of out there for all the world to see!

I’m so in love with both of my books this week. Anne Bishop has been my favorite author for over a decade, and Ilona Andrews is a new favorite (but is just as wonderful.) I’m squeezing all the awesome I can into this post!

Vision in Silver (The Others, #3) by Anne Bishop

Hardcover, 400 pages
Publisher: Penguin Publishing Group
Release Date: March 3rd, 2015
ISBN# 9780451465276

“I see.” And he did see. Label anyone who wanted to keep peace between humans and the terra indigene as a Wolf lover, especially if that person directly interacted with the Others in any capacity, and force those people to choose between having a job and feeding their families, and opposing the fools who would provoke a fight that would end with many, many humans dead or driven out of the city.

And here’s a slightly longer teaser from Magic Breaks, because the whole scene just made me crack up:

Magic Breaks (Kate Daniels, #7) by Ilona Andrews

Hardcover, 348 pages
Publisher: Ace Hardcover
Release Date: July 29th, 2014
ISBN# 9780425256220
Page: 78

Robert gaped at me. Desandra make a weird face: her right eyebrow crept up, her left went down, and her mouth got stuck somewhere between surprise and the beginning of the word “what/” Derek’s mouth opened and didn’t close until we came to a halt next to him.

“What the hell is this?” Desandra asked.

“This is Cuddles. She’s a mammoth donkey.”

Derek grinned, leaning on the fence. “Do you have any self-respect left?”

“Nope.”

“I think she’s cute.” Desandra reached out.

Cuddles promptly tried to bite her. Desandra jerked her hand away and bared her teeth. “Donkey, you don’t know who you’re messing with. I’ll eat you for breakfast.”

“Where to now?” I asked.

Judging by the number of parts, this smoker was more complicated than a nuclear reactor. “Did you read the instructions?”

He shook his head.

“Why, were you afraid they’d take your man card away?”

“Are you going to help me or make fun of me?”

“Can’t I do both?”

Diplomacy was never my strong suit and my patience had run dry. I crouched down and called out, “Here, kitty, kitty, kitty.”

Two golden eyes ignited at the opposite wall. A shape stirred within the darkness and rose, carrying the eyes up and up and up until they towered above me.
