Harry Potter Moment of the Week #40

This is a meme started by Uncorked Thoughts which aims to share with fellow bloggers a weekly slice of HP awesomeness. It is an awesomeness that only increases with time and number of reads. Once a week we will share a character, spell, chapter, object, quote etc. from the books/films/J. K. Rowling (or anything Potter related)! Each topic will be posted on Uncorked Thoughts HERE. There will also be  free weeks where everyone can share whatever topic they want! Be sure to share your link on the main site for all other HP MOTW fans to enjoy!

This Week’s Theme: Who would you take to the Yule Ball?

Okay, this was a pretty easy question for me to answer. And as much as I love my guy Harry, he was totally at that age where he wasn’t ready for a formal dance. You only have to look at this to see…

Harry and Ron Yule BallNo offense to anyone who loves these boys (I do too) but they were total Debbie-Downers just because they couldn’t go with their ideal date. Um, welcome to teenage-dom boys. They could have made an effort to have a good time, but they didn’t. So, much as I adore them, nope. At this stage of the game, they’re not for me.

A. They’re hilarious.

B. They’re older so there’s bound to be less emo-drama, due to more maturity… sort of.

And C. Look at them! They’re adorable and clearly intend to have themselves some FUN! That’s exactly what I would want in my date to a dance like this. Someone who is bound and determined to have fun.

I really don’t see how I could make any other choice. Unless, perhaps I decided to go with their friend Jordan, who I’m also guessing would want to have a good time. Perhaps we would all hang out together, and maybe get kicked out when one of them attempts a practical joke, or spikes the punch.

Any way you look at it, I bet I’d have a good night.

Well, that’s really all I’ve got for ya! Just a small moment of sweet HP goodness! I hope you enjoyed it, and please, feel free to share your own thoughts on who you’d want to go to the Yule Ball with in the comments below!

Media Mondays: Get “Happy” with the DC Public Library

Media Mondays

Welcome to Media Mondays! This meme is dedicated to all things media related: Music, Movies, TV, and possibly other electronics and gadgetry. Here’s how it works (you’re going to love how simple it is)… Just pick a topic that is related to one of these major media formats and discuss!

DCPL Gets “Happy” (by DC Public Library)

schoollibraryjournal: “Happy,” library style. @Pharrell

This video, brought to you by School Library Journal’s Tumblr page and YouTube, is the subject of my Media Mondays post because I think it highlights many of the things I think libraries should be doing these days. I love how much the people are enjoying themselves, and embracing Pop Culture as a part of the library’s atmosphere. This is the kind of thing that will bring in new patrons. People can see that the library is a place to have fun at, to celebrate not only books, but also our larger American life. I think more libraries should experiment with videos and using various media as a means to engage their public and, hopefully, inform them about the programs and services offered at the library. You could record videos of book reviews and post them (or any kind of reviews really), or show children’s programs or demonstrate how to do fingerplays and kid songs. You could even use videos as a means of explaining how certain services work, like a new book drop or the summer reading program. So many libraries are already doing it, but if your library hasn’t branched out yet, it’s time to get creative!
