Harry Potter Moment of the Week #7

HPMOTW (2)

This is a meme started by Uncorked Thoughts which aims to share with fellow bloggers a weekly slice of HP awesomeness. It is an awesomeness that only increases with time and number of reads. Once a week we will share a character, spell, chapter, object, quote etc. from the books/films/J. K. Rowling (or anything Potter related)! Each topic will be posted on Uncorked Thoughts HERE. There will also be  free weeks where everyone can share whatever topic they want! Be sure to share your link on the main site for all other HP MOTW fans to enjoy!

This Week’s Theme: Best Dumbledore Moment

Yeeeeeeesssssssss!! This is a theme I can thoroughly get behind! There are so many amazing Dumbledore moments throughout the series, but the one I love — that immediately jumped into my mind — is this one:

Dumbledore's got style

This scene, both in the books and in the film, was just AWESOME! I mean, Shacklebolt sums it up exactly. Dumbledore protects Harry, basically thumbs his nose at the Ministry of Magic, and escapes from custody via a phoenix, thus proving himself a badass. With style.

“A streak of silver light flashed around the room. There was a bang like a gunshot, and the floor trembled.  A hand grabbed the scruff of Harry’s neck and forced him down to the floor as a second silver flash went off — several of the portraits yelled, Fawkes screeched, and a cloud of dust filled the air. Coughing in the dust, Harry saw a dark figure fall to the ground with a crash in front of him. There was a shriek and a thud and somebody cried, ‘No!’ Then the sound of breaking glass, frantically scuffling footsteps, a groan — and silence.” (pg 621)

“She said nothing, but marched Harry and Marietta to the door. As it swung closed behind them, Harry heard Phineas Nigellus’s voice.

‘You know, Minister, I disagree with Dumbledore on many counts…but you cannot deny he’s got style…'” (pg 623)

I remember reading this moment in Order of the Phoenix for the first time and just crowing with excitement and triumph when Dumbledore gets one over on the Ministry. It was so cool, and so well-done. From the moment Harry walks into his office, to the moment he walks out again. All the stuff with Dumbledore’s Army was so incredible, and then this moment pushing everything to a head. It was so much fun to read. It is by far my favorite of all the scenes with Dumbledore!

Well, that’s really all I’ve got for ya! Just a small moment of sweet HP goodness! I hope you enjoyed it, and please, feel free to share your own favorite Dumbledore moments in the comments below!

This Week’s Theme: Scariest Place in the Books

Ah. For me, this one is easy. It’s the cave that Harry and Professor Dumbledore go to in Half-Blood Prince. Between what Tom Riddle did to the kids he brought there, and what Harry and the professor went through with the Inferi… yeesh! It completely creeps me out.

“A towering cliff stood behind them, a sheer drop, black and faceless. A few large chunks of rock, such as the one upon which Harry and Dumbledore were standing, looked as though they had broken away from the cliff face at some point in the past. It was a bleak, harsh view, the sea and the rock unrelieved by any tree or sweep of grass or sand.” – page 555 of the paperback.

And that’s just the outside of this place!

“They were standing on the edge of a great black lake, so vast that Harry could not make out the distant banks, in a cavern so high that the ceiling too was out of sight. A misty greenish light shone far away in what looked like the middle of the lake; it was reflected in the completely still water below. The greenish glow and the light from the two wands were the only things that broke the otherwise velvety blackness, though their rays did not penetrate as far as Harry would have expected. THe darkness was somehow denser than normal darkness.” – page 560.

Um, does the word ominous come to anyone else’s mind here? It’s like there is absolutely nothing good that could possibly come from descriptions of a place like this. Not one single thing.

And on that happy note, here is a pic from the movie, when they are in the cave and the Inferi show up…

This Week’s Theme: If You Could be a Character for a Day, Who Would You Be?

This is such a tricky question!! There’s the obvious answer (for me) which is Hermione Granger.

hermione thinking

She’s just so amazing, and super smart and a bad a** to boot.

She never seems too afraid of anything. I also love that she’s a little bit of a ‘know it all’. Its LeviOsa

She knows what she wants and she goes after it in a way that I can only admire. She’s determined, and has conviction.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part I

What an amazing woman! And while Ron might not be my first choice, it’s clear he adores her and she’s HP’s best gal pal. It’s kind of hard find fault here!

But the less obvious choices, which are equally as compelling are: Ginny Weasley, Luna Lovegood, Albus Dumbledore…

Can we all just take a moment to remember how awesome this scene was, and how uncomfortable it made all of her brothers? lol! Ginny is a force to be reckoned with, and that’s why being her would be incredibly appealing. She’s athletic, magically strong, and lets face it ladies, in the end, she gets Harry. Who wouldn’t want to spend as a day as the person who won Harry Potter’s heart? I certainly wouldn’t mind!

Luna LovegoodLuna_Lovegood

Why Luna? I’ve thought about this for a while (probably too long) and I think it would be really, really interesting to spend a day looking at the world through Luna’s eyes. Not to mention, she’s a Ravenclaw for a reason, folks! That means intelligence and that’s something I really like. I’m also curious as to what she winds up doing after they all grow up. Does anyone know? Does she wind up working for/running the Quibbler perhaps? Travel on expeditions in search of Nargles? I’d love to find out what a day in the life of Luna is like!

Can you imagine for a second, how much magical knowledge Dumbledore has at his fingertips?? Spells no one else could ever conceive, power to his tippy-toes… I would LOVE to spend a day as Dumbledore. He’s so respected by his peers, is completely content with a job he loves, and while he may not have the perfect life, I think spending a day as the Headmaster of Hogwarts would be most welcome.
