This week’s song selection: Don’t Stop Believin’ by Journey

Official (Live) Music Video:

There is no actual music video from Journey for “Don’t Stop Believin’.” So here is their official live video which was recorded in Houston. I really enjoy how much the band seems to be enjoying themselves up on stage. I like the way they don’t just do it straight like off the album. Sometimes that might annoy me, but in this case, it’s so playful and masterful at the same time. I would have loved to see the original band perform together live. I bet it was MAGIC.

Lyrics:

Just a small town girl
Livin’ in a lonely world
She took the midnight train goin’ anywhere

Just a city boy
Born and raised in South Detroit
He took the midnight train goin’ anywhere

A singer in a smokey room
The smell of wine and cheap perfume
For a smile they can share the night
It goes on and on, and on, and on

Strangers waiting
Up and down the boulevard
Their shadows searching in the night

Streetlights people
Livin’ just to find emotion
Hidin’ somewhere in the night

Workin’ hard to get my fill
Everybody wants a thrill
Payin’ anything to roll the dice just one more time

Some will win, some will lose
Some were born to sing the blues
Oh, the movie never ends
It goes on and on, and on, and on

Strangers waiting
Up and down the boulevard
Their shadows searching in the night

Streetlights people
Livin’ just to find emotion

Hidin’ somewhere in the night

Don’t stop believin’
Hold on to that feelin’
Streetlight people

Don’t stop believin’
Hold on
Streetlight people

Don’t stop believin’
Hold on to that feelin’
Streetlight people

Why this song?

This song is one I will never get sick of. Everything about it just makes me happy. The lyrics and storytelling, the guitar, Perry’s voice, all of it. This is one of those indefinable songs that is just a piece of American culture, something that has become larger than life. It’s unforgettable.

And that’s all for today, folks. Catch you on the flip side!
