Throwback Thursdays: A Reader Through and Through

How do you #TBT?

In each Throwback Thursday post, I will share a picture or memory from my past. Some will be book related, but many will not. Feel free to play along on your own blog or website!

For my first Throwback Thursday post, I thought it might be a good idea to talk about the photo in my header.

I’m not sure exactly how old I am here. Somewhere between 7 and 10 years old. But clearly, I was a reader even back then. So absorbed in my book that I didn’t even realize my picture was being taken. That’s not the only time I’ve been guilty of that. Frequently I would come out of a story to a very annoyed voice saying, “Kerry. KERRY. Did you hear me?!” Hehe.

I can say without a doubt that this photo was take at my uncle’s house. He had that same brown couch for over 2 decades, and that flower wallpaper was there when he moved in. And he never bothered to change it. I always liked going to visit at his place. Pizza was pretty frequent on the dinner menu, which I appreciated. And that beautiful pooch in the background? That was Spaz. He was an awesome dog. A mutt, but I think he was part Akita. And he was so big that my little sister used to ride on him as a toddler.

I’m also guessing that book in my hands is a Babysitter’s Club book. They were my favorite series from the time I learned how to read on my own. I read hundreds of them, the main series, the “specials,” the mysteries, even a few of the Little Sister stories. I loved them. Stacey was my favorite character, but I was a big fan of all the characters. Ann M. Martin made me want to be a children’s book writer.

So, that’s my #TBT for today. Feel free to share a memory of your own in the comments.
