So here’s a Huffington Post article (or, more accurately, a list) of recommendations of books to read if you enjoy watching particular TV shows. Some of these are really interesting choices, though I don’t necessarily know if I’d agree with them all. Personally I might check out the suggestion for people who like The Big Bang Theory. What is funny, though, is that half the TV shows on this list were originally books themselves…
Sherlock = The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes (and more) by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle
Game of Thrones = A Song of Ice and Fire series by George R. R. Martin
Dexter = Series of the same title by Jeff Lindsay
Orange is the New Black = Book of the same title by Piper Kerman
Now, don’t get me wrong. I’m sure these recommendations are pretty good, and people who are already aware (and have read the source material) will appreciate such recommendations. But if you like these shows and decide you want to read something in the same vein or genre, might I suggest reading the books they were based on before branching out into something else? I’m guessing you might gain a lot more insight into your favorite shows that way and possibly learn some facts about the characters you may not have been aware of. Cause, lets face it, there’s no way they could have gone over every detail of the book(s). *cough* GOT *cough* Then once you’ve done that, check out those other reads.
