Toys Don’t Have a Gender

It gets better when we allow our children to make their own decisions of what toys they want to play with.

This is something that we discussed on occasion in my library classes when talking about child development. I strongly agree that we should allow children to play with whatever they find interesting enough to engage with (subtracting anything that would cause them physical harm that is). But who cares if they are a boy playing with a doll or a girl with a truck? The only meaning that toys have are the ones that we as a society give to them. Take social inferences away and what is left? Only whatever meaning the child ascribes to it.

It Gets Better when parents, guardians, and adults in society allow children to express their true nature, regardless of what that might be.
